Designers’ plug + Episode 1
As a designer it’s always great when you have a constant flow of inspiration, wether it be from the post card you picked up at a boutique store, or just an ad you saw in a magazine. Sometimes It can be hard to keep inspiration flowing and when inspiration stops flowing you start to feel like your repeating your-self. As a designer I know it’s hard to keep ideas flowing and inspiration coming in, but I try not to use my environment as an excuse but use other outlets to my advantage. One that I’ve learnt to harness is the web and use it to get plugs from all over the world. It can be hard to find good plugs if you don’t know where to start, this post is the first in a series of posts called the “Designers’ plug” these posts will include plugs to what I’ve found on the web that I feel can be useful to my fellow designers. I will post links to at-least 2 or 3 plugs, each plug will most likely have 10 other plugs that can further your search for inspiration and resources on the web. I hope you find this useful and if you like this, feel free to leave comments on what you think about the post.
+ Pdf-Mags.com
Okay this is a big one, this is also my favorite. Okay you know how design magazines can be one of the most expensive to subscribe to or just buy from the store, well this is a site that has links to various types of art, design, fashion, photography magazines that are digital, but don’t let this fool you, these magazines are top notch in design and execution and usually have more than a 100 pages of unique content. Just think of a magazine that never went to the printers. Some of the magazines are flash based and even have more interactivity, like clicking on links in the magazine, changing pictures, but for the most part they are small downloadable pdf’s, usually around 4 - 30 megabytes depending on the content.
+ The Serif
This is a cool blog that focuses in on fonts and the wonderful world of typefaces. This blog is great for those who love type design or just want to understand type a little bit more.
+ The Redesigner
This is a fun one, in London they just banned smoking in public places and they have a new no-smoking sign put everywhere. This site got different designers around London to redesign the ugly no-smoking signs, its fun to see the different iterations of the same sign.
