“Writing Inertia I was blue as a motherfucker,” Villa raps in the song “70”, his first single from his recently released album, Pack Light Travel Far. This line is emblematic of his artistic and emotional progression. Whereas his previous album was darkly melancholy, PLTF continues along the vibrant and introspective vein established by INERTIA, but implements a more hopeful tone that is perfectly timed for summer. Villa’s lyricism and vocal ease left us in greedy anticipation. Villa worked with a new producer, Rossi, whose unmistakable voice was featured on the previous album. I had the good fortune of talking to the artist about this work and the meaning of the title. “Pack Light Travel Far,” he says, “is about moving forward.” In Inertia the artist wallowed through obstacles, but in PLTF, “I’m letting go.” Though the quality of work is consistent, the growth is clear. Villa offers another solid bit of music for our library, here. Download the album here + Enjoy // www.villamorvilla.com
